HARVEST UPDATE

“Oh look Mum there’s flowers”

We delivered a hamper to a young mum last week who had suddenly become ill and can no longer work. She is waiting on benefits being sorted out and because of the circumstances which she has now found herself in has had to reluctantly contact Storehouse for assistance. Tearfully she described what life has been like this past number of weeks for her and her young son.  The struggle, the stress, the worry about the future was all expressed. We sat down and chatted, bringing on your behalf words of kindness and showing that people cared about her. The immediate stress we were able to release her from was knowing where the next meal was coming from.

We are able to do this vital and compassionate work thanks to you and your generous donations of store cupboard goods, toiletries and cleaning products. Farmers continue to donate fresh vegetables to us along with a market trader from Bangor market who sends us vegetables each week too. The blessings continue as we also receive Marks and Spencer’s Bangor surplus goods each day, Monday to Friday. This includes bakery products, fruit, vegetables and flowers.

Not until we included flowers in our hampers did we realise what joy they bring.

Clients and agencies report back regularly about the tears of joy they see on delivering flowers with the food.
The joy for us at Storehouse is knowing that all we do is in Jesus’ name.

“Oh look mummy there’s flowers” this was the reaction of that mother’s nine year old son who sees his mum struggling with pain and worry and has just welcomed a stranger into his house with bags of groceries to help them.
This is one of many stories; please continue to pray for our work and for the people we come in contact with. The Storehouse Lunch Club continues on Sundays on a fortnightly basis in the Happy Bean Café in King Street, Bangor. Here, people again referred by ourselves or agencies, can come along and avail of a delicious three course meal. This act of kindness of Elizabeth Porter and her team in providing and preparing the meal is greatly appreciated by the people who attend and the agencies/churches who refer. If you know of anyone or a family who is in a situation and you think would benefit from a hot meal, please contact 0759 4235 020.

Thank you again for your continued support which enables us to live out the gospel.

Blessings from the Storehouse North Down Food Ministry Team
